The Seven Chakras: A Beginner's Guide

In this day and age, where everyone is focused on self-realization and spiritual awakening, the word "chakras" gets thrown around a lot.

If you are just embarking on your spiritual journey you've probably heard of the chakras in reference to yoga or reiki.

You've probably also read or been told that it's important to keep your chakras open and unblocked...whatever that means.

But what exactly are the chakras and why are they important?

In this article, we will explore the seven chakras, including their locations, associated attributes, and tips for balancing and healing each chakra.

What Are Chakras?

The word "chakra" is a sanskrit word meaning "disk" or "wheel," and refers to your body's energy centers.

Each chakra corresponds to different nerve bundles and major organs.

The chakras run along your spine; from the base or root to the crown or top of your head.

What's important to remember is that chakras are all about ENERGY.

When they are open and unblocked, energy can flow freely.  This is when you feel good and healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

When these chakras are blocked, this is when you may experience physical ailments, emotional distress, or depression, or a lack of motivation.

The Seven Chakras

 1.  Root Chakra

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with feelings of safety, security, and stability. When this chakra is balanced, you feel grounded, centered, and connected to the earth. To balance the root chakra, focus on activities that bring you a sense of security and stability, such as spending time in nature, practicing yoga, or meditating on the color red.

2.  Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is located just below the navel and is associated with pleasure, creativity, and sensuality. When this chakra is balanced, you feel passionate, creative, and able to express your emotions. To balance the sacral chakra, engage in activities that stimulate your creativity, such as painting, dancing, or playing music. Meditating on the color orange can also be helpful.

 3.  Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is located in the upper abdomen and is associated with personal power, self-esteem, and confidence. When this chakra is balanced, you feel self-assured, confident, and in control of your life. To balance the solar plexus chakra, engage in activities that boost your self-confidence, such as practicing public speaking or assertiveness training. Meditating on the color yellow can also be helpful.

4.  Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest and is associated with love, compassion, and forgiveness. When this chakra is balanced, you feel open-hearted, loving, and connected to others. To balance the heart chakra, engage in activities that promote feelings of love and compassion, such as volunteering or spending time with loved ones. Meditating on the color green can also be helpful.

5. Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is located in the throat and is associated with communication, self-expression, and creativity. When this chakra is balanced, you feel confident in your ability to express yourself and communicate your needs. To balance the throat chakra, engage in activities that promote self-expression, such as writing, singing, or public speaking. Meditating on the color blue can also be helpful.

 6. Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra is located in the center of the forehead and is associated with intuition, wisdom, and inner vision. When this chakra is balanced, you feel connected to your inner guidance and able to trust your instincts. To balance the third eye chakra, engage in activities that promote intuition and inner wisdom, such as meditation or dream journaling. Meditating on the color indigo can also be helpful.

7. Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is located at the top of the head and is associated with spiritual connection and enlightenment. When this chakra is balanced, you feel connected to something greater than yourself and able to access higher states of consciousness. To balance the crown chakra, engage in activities that promote spiritual connection, such as prayer, meditation, or spending time in nature. Meditating on the color violet can also be helpful.

Conclusion

The seven chakras are an important part of our physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. By understanding the locations, attributes, and tips for balancing each chakra, beginners can begin to explore and enhance their own chakra system.
