Four Career Indicators in the Natal Chart

Four Career Indicators in the Natal Chart

Have you given much thought to your career lately?  If you have, I'm sure you haven't thought about it in terms of your natal astrology chart.

Are you doing something that you actually love, or are you just working to survive?  Does your career choice reflect your natural abilities and inclinations?

Much like anything else in life, astrology can be used to predict and give clarity to your career and professional aspirations (and may even include a job in the astrology field!).  While just about every component of your birth chart can and does add depth and meaning to this topic, four things, in particular, can tell you a lot about your career.

First things first, you'll need to have your birth chart handy.  A great resource to generate your chart can be found here

#1: Your Sun, Moon, & Rising Signs

Together, these three signs make up your personality.  When it comes to your career, your personality, characteristics, mannerisms, and outlook on life play an important role in what type of work you actually like to do and what you are naturally inclined towards, given your strengths and weaknesses.

Your Sun sign speaks to your ego; it represents your core personality and your sense of self.  Your Moon sign represents your emotions; it signifies your inner thoughts, beliefs, and reactions to things in the world.  Finally, your Rising sign represents how the world sees you; it's the mask you wear while out in the world.

Interested in fitness?  You probably have Aries as one of your big three.  Want to become an attorney?  Libra definitely might be either your Sun, Moon, or Rising sign.

Taking it a step further, aspects to your Ascendant could be very telling in terms of your career path.  For example, Venus aspecting your Ascendant could be behind your outstanding looks, hence predisposing you to a career in modeling.

#2: The Midheaven

The Midheaven is one of the four angles in the natal chart, found at the very top.  The most public point in the chart is on the cusp of the 10th house and relates to career, social standing, and reputation.

Take note of the sign in which the Midheaven is located, as well as the degree.

A Gemini midheaven could indicate a career in communications or journalism.  A Pisces midheaven is indicative of humanitarian/charity work.  Cancer midheaven?  This could strongly suggest a career in nursing.

Your Midheaven degree can offer more clues regarding specifics about how or where you work.

#3: The North Node

The North Node is concerned with destiny and where we are headed in life.  In contrast, the South Node is indicative of our past actions, perhaps in past lives.

Following your North Node requires you to grow and evolve.

Since the North Node clues you into where you are headed, it can certainly give you some information about your career.

For example, a Virgo North Node indicates that you are to learn how to be of service to people authentically and practically in this lifetime.  To fulfill this destiny, you'll need to tap into lessons provided by your South Node in Pisces, which tells you that compassion for and being of service to humanity as a whole in a selfless manner is the way to enlightenment.

All things being said, using this example, a service-oriented career - like working for a nonprofit organization as a manager or team leader - would make sense for you.

Hope I haven't lost you!  One more to go...

#4: The 10th House

In the astrological chart, the 10th house is the house of career and public life.  As such, any planets in and aspects to planets in this house will tell you all your need to know about your career.

Even if this house has no planets, the house ruler, its positions, strength, and aspects, can give you the same information.  For example, if the sign on the cusp of your 10th house is Sagittarius, your 10th house ruler would be Jupiter.  Look to see where Jupiter is located in your chart, its relative strength, and the aspects it makes to other planets.

Taurus on the cusp of your 10th house could indicate a career in the fashion or beauty industries, as Taurus is ruled by Venus.  Sagittarius on the cusp of the 10th house indicates foreign affairs, which could find you working overseas or working for an international company.

Saturn or Mars in your 10th house, or aspecting planets in your 10th house, could mean struggles and conflicts concerning your career.  Jupiter or Venus in or aspecting your 10th house could mean good fortune and prosperous relationships.

Additionally, it's also helpful to look at your 2nd and 6th houses as well.  The 2nd house is concerned with money, and the 6th house is concerned with work (the work you do in service to others on a day-to-day basis).  Examining those houses and the aspects planets in those houses are making will add some depth to the inquiry as well.

So, Now What?

As you can see, there's a lot to be said about your career, as evidenced by your natal chart.  It's important to note that all of these things work in tandem.  Each component is like a different color and brushstroke used to create a beautiful painting.

Remember, though, that ultimately you have the free will to choose whatever career path your heart desires.

The one thing that can be said is that often, the career that you love and that fulfills you is right in line with the astrology in your natal chart.  Your free will is reflected in the chart.
